How We Started
Electric Cat had humble origins and has organically grown from a two-man start up with the then directors, James Wootton and Kevin Sheldrake, to a thriving Information Assurance Consultancy.
In 2010, Kevin left Electric Cat to pursue a career in Hypnosis, leaving James to continue at the helm of Electric Cat.
James joined GCHQ on a four-year technical apprentice scheme and, after successful completion, became a project manager responsible for systems integration. He transferred to CESG in 1997 to become one of the department's first full-time vulnerability assessors (Ethical Hacker). He was instrumental in the start of the CHECK scheme and was the first CHECK Technical Champion. James provided technical advice and support to the UK Government CERTs, UNIRAS and NISCC. He left the civil service to work as an Information Security consultant in a variety of roles before joining Electric Cat as joint-owner.
